I just read a Washington Post story about a Virginia county that is dispatching police officers to deliver criminal complaints against the parents of children who are constantly late for school.
This story combines two of my lifelong pet peeves -- people who are habitually late and authorities who abuse their power -- into a single fireball of peeve.
Hey, parents, get your kids to school on time, because there's just no excuse for habitual tardiness (shush, talk to the hand). And, hey, you ham-handed school officials, solve the problem without using the cops, because cops are for real crimes and this isn't one. (That goes for you, too, librarians.)
In other words, everyone, be responsible adults. ... In the meantime, I can't support either side here.
