The latest figures from e-skills UK show that 85 percent of Information Technology Management for Business (ITMB) students find employment within six months of graduation, with the rest going onto further study within the same period.

The graduate deployment figure is good news for the ITMB degree that was developed by e-skills UK in collaboration with over 60 employers, including BT, HP and Logica.

The degree is designed to develop graduates who have the variety of technical, business and interpersonal skills to find employment at leading firms.

Nicola Luke, graduate development manager at HP, said: "The best thing about the ITMB degree is that it's tailored specifically to our industry. It allows the graduate to showcase their technical capabilities as well as the business and interpersonal skills that are very much needed in the work place from day one."

Companies taking on ITMB graduates include Apple, BA, Barclays, Credit Suisse, Deloitte, ebay, Ernst & Young, Fujitsu, Goldman Sachs, Google, HP, IBM, John Lewis Partnership, Logica, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, Proctor & Gamble, SAS UK and Shell.

Applications to study ITMB have increased at an average of 24 percent over the last four years at the various universities that offer the degree, claimed e-skills UK. The graduate deployment figures are based on a sample including 84 percent of the ITMB students who graduated in 2011.

Industry organisations have welcomed education secretary Michael Gove's recent announcement of a fundamental overhaul in the way ICT is taught in schools. The BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT and supplier body Intellect supported the government's move.
